Crime Alert Bulletin January 20-26, 2020

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 01-20-20 at 6:35 p.m., Officer Lizana was dispatched to the 400 block of Santa Barbara Avenue on a report of a male subject causing a disturbance by using a loud “weed whacker”. When Officer Lizana contacted the subject, he noticed that the subject appeared to be acting in an unnatural manner—he was sweating profusely in the 49° weather and muttering unintelligibly. Officer Hightower arrived to assist, and they placed the 37-year old Daly City resident under arrest for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for possession of methamphetamine.

On Monday, 01-20-20 at 6:39 p.m., subsequent to a bicycle stop in front of Westlake Park by Officer Moody, a 34-year old transient was arrested for carrying a 15” dirk/dagger that was partially exposed in his backpack.

On Tuesday, 01-21-20 at 7:42 p.m., Officer Reininger was dispatched to the Serramonte Shopping Center on a report of a male who had looked into a restroom stall while a female was using the toilet. The dispatcher said the male was described as Samoan, approximately 6’0”, 200 lbs., wearing a black beanie, long ponytail, black tight-fitting shirt, camouflage pants with black straps hanging from the front and tan work boots. The 36-year old victim said she was using the restroom and heard someone enter, and a short time later, she heard the sound of heavy breathing. The victim said she saw a shadow to her right side and looked down. When she looked down, the victim said she saw the suspect lying down on the floor beside the toilet stall, looking up at her and breathing heavily. The victim yelled at the suspect and attempted to shove him away with her foot. The victim attempted to chase the male as he fled the restroom and the shopping center.

On Wednesday, 01-22-20 at 5:04 p.m., a 49-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol at the intersection of Southgate Avenue and Palmcrest Drive.

On Wednesday, 01-22-20 at 9:13 p.m., a 24-year old Mill Valley resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after she was involved in a collision with a car and also with three pedestrians in the parking lot in front of Dave and Buster’s.

On Thursday, 01-23-20 at 12:51 a.m., Officer Shoopman and Officer Bermudez were dispatched to the Walgreen’s store at the Westlake Shopping Center on a report of a subject who was attempting to pay with three fake $100 bills. The officers arrived and met with a subject matching the description. The subject told the officers he was trying to add money to his son’s debit card. Officer Shoopman noticed the subject was sweating and was not wearing any shoes or socks. The officers asked the subject to step outside the store and asked him for his identification. The subject gave a name twice to the officers, but they could not find a match of his name. When the officers searched the subject’s jacket pockets, they found a bottle containing methamphetamine. The officers also found a card with a name on it and asked the subject about who owned the card. The subject told him it was his son’s card. The subject gave his real name after the officers told the subject he was going to be arrested for the counterfeit bills, the methamphetamine and for lying to the police. The subject, a 30-year old Pacifica resident, was on court probation, and was placed under arrest.

On Saturday, 01-25-20 at 8:07 a.m., Officer Leyson and Officer Perdomo were on patrol and saw a vehicle blocking a driveway on the 400 block of East Market Street. A subject was in the vehicle, which was running, and the subject appeared asleep. Officer Perdomo opened the passenger door and turned off the engine. The subject was on probation and admitted to having a “pipe” in the center console. Officer Leyson retrieved the glass pipe and also found suspected Fentanyl and methamphetamine next to the pipe. The officers placed the 36-year old San Francisco resident under arrest for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

On Saturday, 01-25-20 at 2:00 p.m., officers arrested a 42-year old Daly City resident for being intoxicated in public after they were dispatched to the Lucky’s store on a report of a male subject drinking alcohol and yelling at customers.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
