Deputies arrest a man who threatened to shoot up Mesa Linda Middle School following an argument with staff

INCIDENT: Criminal Threats with Intent to Terrorize

LOCATION: 13001 Mesa Linda Ave, Victorville

SUSPECT(S): Christian Fowler Avila, 20-year old Victorville resident


SUMMARY:

On January 28, 2020, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to Mesa Linda Middle School for a disturbance report.

The suspect, Christian Fowler Avila, was driving by the school when he observed a family member who attends school there was in the school yard. The suspect stopped and approached the fence surrounding the school. The student went to the fence and began talking to the suspect. A school security guard saw the suspect and told him he was not allowed to be there talking to the student. Avila became angry and started yelling at the security guard, threatening him and threatening to come back when school let out, to shoot the school up. Then the suspect got back in the vehicle and left.

School officials immediately placed the school on lockdown and called law enforcement. Deputies responded to the school and interviewed several witnesses. Deputies and Detectives obtained and served a search warrant at the suspect’s home in Victorville. No firearms and no evidence indicating the suspect planned to return to the school to inflict any harm were located at the home.

The suspect was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for criminal threats with intent to terrorize. He is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on January 30, 2020.
