INCIDENT:   Murder Investigation
 
LOCATION: Third Street/ Yucca Ave., Hesperia
 
VICTIM:        Joseph Sandoval, 29 years old, resident of Hesperia
 
SUSPECT(S): #1- Gabriel Montufar, 27 years old, resident of Hesperia
                      #2- Unidentified male
                      
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 5:47 p.m. deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to 911 calls of a fight involving several subjects in the area of Third St. near Yucca Ave. The calls were followed by reports of shots fired. A patrol unit was in the area as the shooting took place and attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle fleeing the area. The driver failed to stop, and short pursuit ensued before the driver lost control and crashed. Following the pursuit and crash, Gabriel Montufar was taken into custody and another unidentified subject fled on foot.
Other responding deputies found the victim, Joseph Sandoval, in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Desert Valley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
 
Homicide Detectives responded to conduct the investigation.
 
After an interview with Detectives, Gabriel Montufar was arrested for murder and booked at High Desert Detention Center.
 
The reason for the fight and subsequent shooting remains under investigation.
