A firefighter advised a female subject in one of the apartments had used a Weber grill to burn objects. After a brief investigation, Officer Greene arrested the 30-year old female for reckless burning of property, and willful cruelty to a child after three children under the age of 10 were subjected to the smoke. The 28-year old victim said her husband stopped the car at Gambetta Street before Abbot Avenue and told her to get out of the car. Scams/Other

Apple Scams

On Thursday, 01-16-20 at 2:40 p.m., a 67-year old Daly City resident came to the police station to make a report of a past fraud. The reporting party said she received a series of calls from people claiming to be Apple employees who said they noticed there were fraudulent foreign purchases on her Apple ID account. The “Apple employees” told her they would guide her on how to purchase a firewall in order to block future fraudulent purchase. The caller sent the victim an e-mail saying $1,000 had been deposited into her Apple ID account which was connected to her Wells Fargo Bank. The victim was then told to go to the nearest Walgreens and purchase five eBay gift cards for $200 each, as there were five separate accounts that have to be separated. The caller told the victim to give him the numbers on the back of the cards, and he instructed her to go to other stores to purchase more cards. The victim lost $1,000 before discovering this was a scam.

A similar scam occurred on Wednesday 01-14-20 to a 71-year old resident who lost $1,500 by purchasing gift cards from Best Buy to supposedly fix the “problem” with her Apple computer.

This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there.
