On November 21^st, 2018, Azusa Police Officers responded to the 600 Block of N. Rockvale Avenue, Azusa, regarding a shooting which had just occurred.  Upon arrival, Officers located one victim, Abel Balderas, who had been fatally shot. 

The Azusa Police Department requested the assistance of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau, who assumed control of the investigation.  Since the onset of this investigation, the Azusa Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau have been working diligently to solve this murder.
 
On January 21^st, 2020, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau extradited a male juvenile subject from Virginia for the homicide of Abel Balderas.  The juvenile subject was booked into the Azusa Police Department Jail.  This arrest follows an arrest earlier this year of a second juvenile subject, who also participated in the homicide.
 
The criminal case was presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, who filed one count of murder against each of the juvenile subjects.  The subjects remain in custody at Juvenile Hall, without bail.
 
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Azusa Police Department are committed to working together to resolve all homicides in the City of Azusa.
