Deputies arrest a Victorville man on multiple charges after he led them on a pursuit

DATE/TIME: January 21, 2020 / 3:00 pm

INCIDENT: Vehicle Theft, Evading a Peace Officer with Disregard for Safety, Violation of Probation

LOCATION: 6th Street & Lincoln Street, Victorville

SUSPECT: Kevin Earl Caldwell, 36-year old Victorville resident

SUMMARY: On January 21, 2020, Deputy D. Fratt and Deputy M. Baltierra with the Victorville Police Department, were on patrol in the downtown area of Victorville. They spotted a 2012 Toyota Sienna matching the description of one reported stolen earlier in the afternoon. When the deputies pulled behind the Toyota, the driver sped up and turned onto another street. At that time, Fratt and Baltierra attempted to stop the driver.

The driver of the Toyota, later identified as Kevin Earl Caldwell, chose not to yield to the emergency lights and siren and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit for just under 2 miles. Near La Paz and Mojave Drive, Caldwell jumped out of the van and began running. He ran across the I-15 Freeway and into a neighborhood near Sueno and Village Drive. Multiple deputies and Sheriff’s Aviation responded to the area and conducted a search for Caldwell. He was spotted in the backyard of a residence by the Aviation unit, who guided deputies on the ground to the location.

Caldwell was taken into custody and arrested. He was booked at High Desert Detention Center for vehicle theft and evading a Peace Officer with disregard for safety. Caldwell was also found to be on probation and had an active warrant for violating his probation. He is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on January 23, 2020.
