#LASD FCCB has Arrested a Caregiver for Financially Abusing an Elderly Person, Additional Victims Sought

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Fraud and Cyber Crimes Bureau investigators are seeking any possible additional victims of financial elder abuse suspect Sheila Paguirigan Solis.

On November 25, 2019, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged 42 year-old Sheila Paguirigan Solis (aka Sheila May Herbito, Sheila May Paguirigan) in a criminal complaint, case number BA4828530, with 2 felony counts including Grand Theft from an Elder and Burglary.  A warrant was issued for her arrest.

It is alleged that between April 2015, and August 2016, while working as a caregiver for the elder victim in La Canada-Flintridge, Sheila Paguirigan Solis took as much as $100,000 from the elder via cash withdrawals and bank checks issued from the victim’s account.

The thefts were discovered by the victim’s family and reported to law enforcement.  Solis has a previous conviction for financial elder abuse, but did not disclose this and other convictions at the time she began working as the victim’s caregiver.  It is unknown if Solis has worked as a caregiver since being terminated by the victim’s family.

On January 14, 2020, detectives located Sheila Paguirigan Solis outside of her residence in Glendale and arrested her.  She is being held on $50,000 bail. Her next court date is January 29, 2020 in Los Angeles Municipal Court Division 37.

This investigation was conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Elder Fraud Team.  Unfortunately, our elderly are often targeted for financial, and other types, of abuse.  The Sheriff’s Department would like to advise the public that by statute, crimes against elders and dependent adults are deemed to be deserving of special consideration and protection, and that those persons found guilty of committing these crimes are subject to enhanced criminal penalties.

If you feel you are a possible victim of suspect Sheila Paguirigan Solis (aka Sheila May Herbito, Sheila May Paguirigan), call investigators.
Anyone with questions or additional information related to this case is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Fraud and Cyber Crimes Bureau (FCCB) Det. Todd Sams or Sgt. Jacqueline Luna at (562) 946-7217.
