Aggravated Assault Detectives Make Early Morning Arrest

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Aggravated Assault Detectives arrest a man after an early morning shooting. 

Just before 4:30 p.m. on January 20, 2020, Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to the 800 block of South Tremont Street on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had been shot multiple times. Indianapolis EMS responded and transported the male to an area hospital in stable condition. 

Aggravated Assault detectives responded to the scene and immediately began to investigate the incident. During the investigation, officers and detectives quickly learned that after being told to leave the residence Nekis Atwater returned to the home and shot the complainant regarding a verbal altercation. While canvassing the area, officers located 40-year-old Nekis Atwater walking blocks away. Atwater was placed in custody without incident and transported to the Aggravated Assault office, interviewed and arrested. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a charging decision. A current booking photo is attached.
