WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT 10am SATURDAY TILL 1am SUNDAY. 2 to 3 INCHES OF SNOW ACROSS NYC/NJ METRO AREA POSSIBLE.

Update: A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect 10 am Saturday until 1 am Sunday for portions of northeast New Jersey, southern Connecticut, southeast New York including the Bronx and Manhattan.

Overview Saturday into Saturday Night: A quick moving low pressure system moving north of the area will bring wintry precipitation Saturday and during the first half of Saturday night. The precipitation will begin as snow across the region during late Saturday morning across western sections, and then further east during Saturday afternoon. The snow will transition to rain from southeast to northwest beginning Saturday afternoon across eastern coastal sections, then by the early evening across the New York City metropolitan area, and eventually across interior sections later Saturday evening.

Potential Hazards and Impacts Saturday into Saturday Night: :

Light to Moderate Snowfall:
• Hazards:
• There is a moderate to high potential for a light accumulating snow for the entire Tri-State region late Saturday morning into Saturday night.
• Total Snowfall Accumulation:
o 3 to 4 inches across Lower Hudson Valley, Northeastern New Jersey, and much of Southern Connecticut.
 Reasonable worst case snowfall: 4 to 5 inches.
o 2 to 3 inches across NYC/NJ metro with 1 to 2 inches across Long Island
 Reasonable worst case snowfall: 3 to 4 inches.
• Temperatures: Lower 20s city/coast and teens Interior early Saturday morning, slowly increasing into the lower 30s by late Saturday for city/coast and mid 20s Interior.
• Snowfall Rates: up to 0.5"/hr are possible before changing over to rain Saturday afternoon/evening
• Impacts:
• Cold temperatures at the onset of snow Saturday morning into early afternoon should allow for accumulation on untreated surfaces.
• Travel will likely become hazardous due to poor visibility and slippery roads from late Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
• Uncertainty/Forecast Scenarios:
• A later onset of snowfall, could decrease snowfall amounts by an inch or so along the coast, while an earlier onset, could increase snowfall amounts by around an inch.
