A bank robbery suspect is in custody at Santa Rita Jail after San Leandro Police Detectives arrested him in San Leandro, California on January 14, 2020.  Rodeo, California resident Jose Rodriguez-Montano, 50 years old, is believed to be responsible for the bank robbery that occurred at Comerica Bank, located at 1301 E. 14^th Street, San Leandro. 
 
On January 7, 2020, Rodriguez-Montano entered the bank wearing a Halloween style gorilla mask and carrying a shotgun concealed in a black tennis bag.  He approached a teller, verbally demanded money, and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash.  Rodriguez-Montano did not brandish or display the shotgun during the robbery but dropped it on the sidewalk as he fled the bank.  He picked up the shotgun, got into a 2005 Black Acura TL, and fled the area.  He was not apprehended. 
 
Detectives began investigating this case and located video surveillance footage that showed Rodriguez-Montano drive pass an officer in a San Leandro police car equipped with a license plate reader who was responding to this robbery.  Detectives were able to obtain the license plate on the Acura and developed additional evidence that led to Rodriguez-Montano being identified as the suspect who committed this robbery.
 
“We believe Rodriguez-Montano acted alone in this robbery and are not looking for any additional suspects,” said Lt. Ted Henderson. 
 
Rodriguez-Montano is being held on a $470,000.00 bond.  Detectives will be presenting the case against Rodriguez-Montano to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, January 17, 2020 for charging and final disposition.
