Double Homicide UPDATE: Updated information from Union City's Double Homicide on 11.23.19

PRESS RELEASE

On 11/23/19 at approximately 01:26 AM, UCPD began receiving multiple 911 calls from citizens reporting gun shots heard in the area of Sherman Drive and Colgate Drive in Union City.  Officers responded to the area and located two male victims who had suffered suspected gunshot wounds.  The victims were in a parking lot belonging to Searles Elementary School (located near the 1800 block of Sherman Drive).   One fourteen-year-old victim identified as Sean Withington of Union City was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The second victim, eleven-year-old Kevin Hernandez of Union City was pronounced deceased while in route to a local trauma center.

**CASE UPDATE**
Union City Police were given a video, which depicted what appeared to be a shooting in the area where this homicide occurred.  Initially the video was kept from the public due to its graphic nature and potential value in the investigation.  Sometime during the investigation, the video was given to the media by a member of the community and it was broadcasted several times.  Through our investigation, we have been able to determine that the video is genuine, and it did in fact show, in part, what occurred in the early morning hours of November 23, 2019.  The video appears to show two gunmen firing at the victim’s vehicle multiple times.  The motive for the shooting is still unclear, however we have not ruled out gang involvement.

Based on that video, other video surveillance, and tips from the community our investigators have been able to obtain a description of the vehicle used by the suspects.  The vehicle is believed to be a silver 2014-2017 Toyota Camry (see attached photo).  A similar vehicle photo is attached for reference.

The City of Union City is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone providing information which will lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

The Union City Police Department encourages anyone who has information regarding the silver Toyota sedan or the suspects, to call Detective Clubb at 510-675-5227.   Contact can also be made using the UCPD tip line at 510-675-5207 or email at [email protected] (calls and emails may be anonymous).
