Winter Storm Warning until 05:00PM Friday
...WINTER STORM TO BRING HEAVY SNOW TO THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AND FREEZING RAIN TO PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN PLAINS... .A complex winter storm system will bring several inches of snow to northern New Mexico. The highest snow accumulations will be found above 7500 feet with accumulations ranging from 6 to 10 inches and over a foot possible in mountain peaks. Very strong westerly winds on Friday may also create areas of blowing snow across northern New Mexico. This winter storm system will also be responsible for areas of freezing rain across portions of the east-central plains Thursday morning and Thursday night. Total ice accumulations will range from 0.05 to 0.10 inches will locally higher amounts possible.
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts above 8000 feet and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph on Friday.
* WHERE...Far Northwest Highlands, Sandia and Manzano Mountains including Edgewood.
* WHEN...From 5 AM Thursday to 5 PM MST Friday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds on Friday could bring down tree branches.
