Residential Burglary Location: 1900 Block of Nantucket Circle
Public Safety Dispatchers received a call for service regarding a prior residential burglary and vehicle theft.

The victims arrived home to find their residence ransacked and multiple items missing including jewelry, electronics and a vehicle. The estimated loss was approximately $19,939.

Through investigation, SCPD learned the vehicle had been recovered, unoccupied, by the San Jose Police Department (Case Number: 20-0040216) after being used in an attempted burglary. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Monday, January 6, 2020
Residential Burglary Location: 3500 Block of Granada Avenue
An officer was dispatched to the 3500 block if Granada Avenue for a burglary. Between 1/05/20 at 1900 hours and 1/06/20 at 1200 hours an unknown suspect(s) broke a padlock from a locked storage shed and stole several tools valued at approximately $599. The suspect fled and is outstanding.

An officer was dispatched to the 2400 block of Golf Links Circle on the report of a residential burglary. Between 1418 hours and 1500 hours, an unknown suspect(s) broke a window near the front of the home and ransacked portions of the home. The suspect(s) stole several pieces of jewelry. The suspect(s) remain at large.

The Police Department’s Permits Unit provides oversight to businesses regulated by City, State and Federal laws, including but not limited to, bingo establishments, mobile food trucks, adult book stores and massage establishments.

On September 24, 2019, the City Council approved (Report 19-288) amendments to Chapters 5.40, 18.34, 18.36, 18.42, 18.56, 18.70, and 18.104 of the City Code, as well as the new practices for the Police Department’s permitting process, compliance checks and enforcement. On January 8, 2020, SCPD conducted inspections of local massage establishments; three administrative citations were issued for City Code violations (e.g. list of services and corresponding fees must be posted, ledger must be kept, interior doors cannot be capable of being locked, etc.).

SCPD compiled a list of things for consumers to look for when considering a massage establishment:
* Licensed business
* Licensed massage therapists
* Compliance with legal and health regulations
* Clean and neat environment outside and inside
* Business hours that fall within what is allowed in Santa Clara, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
* Male and female clientele
* Massage therapists of varying age and gender
* Word of mouth and online reviews

Between 1700 hours on 1/9/20 and 0700 hours on 1/9/20, unknown suspect(s) stole several major appliances from a housing development currently under construction. The items have an estimated value of $26,400. The suspect(s) remain at large.

City Ordinance Location: Civic Center Park, El Camino Real and Lincoln Street
An officer contacted two subjects at Civic Center Park in violation of Santa Clara City Code 8.35.048(a) – Smoking in a Public Park. The subjects were issued administrative citations and were released at the scene.

NOTE: On February 5, 2019, Santa Clara City Council adopted a Smoking and Tobacco Regulations Ordinance that expanded smoking restrictions in many public areas and multi-unit residences. These regulations aim to protect Santa Clara residents, employees and visitors from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke.

New smoking restricted areas in Santa Clara include:
* Open air dining areas
* Public parks
* Service areas, such as ATMs and transit stops
* Public places when being used for a public event
* Within 30 feet of any operable doorway, window opening, and vent into any enclosed or unenclosed areas in which smoking is prohibited
* Multi-unit residences (effective August 1, 2019)

Drugs Location: 3500 Block of El Camino Real
An officer was patrolling a parking lot on the 3500 block of El Camino Real when a male subject was observed attempting to start a motorcycle. The officer conducted a registration check on the motorcycle and learned the registration was expired despite displaying a current registration sticker.

The officer contacted the subject. The subject displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The subject was in possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. He was arrested.
