HOMELESS COUNT--TUESDAY JANUARY 21, 2020 REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE

The City of Covina is requesting volunteer assistance with the Street Homeless Count, which will take place on the evening and night of Tuesday, January 21, starting at 7:30 pm.  The street count is one component of the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, conducted by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA).  All of the San Gabriel Valley will be counted on January 21, including Covina.  The count gathers data used to produce estimates of the number and locations of unsheltered people in the Los Angeles Continuum of Care.  Three other components of the Count are the Demographic Survey, the Shelter Count and the Youth Count.

The City has agreed to assist LAHSA and to count the street homeless on our streets and in our parks, and will need 60 to 80 adult volunteers to go out in teams and to drive the routes.  Training will be provided on the night of the count.  Counting is usually complete by eleven o’clock.

Please contact the City Housing office at (626) 384-5443 to sign up. Sign-ups can be completed by e-mail to [email protected]. Please provide your name, phone and e-mail contact information.
