Information about phone scams

Criminals routinely utilize several different phone scams in an attempt to get others to send them money, gift cards or other items of monetary value. Within the last week the Corcoran Police Department has been made aware of a couple of phone scams targeting citizens within our community. The first scam involved someone posing as a member of the Kings County Sheriff’s Department claiming the victim missed a jury summons and if they don’t pay they will be arrested. The second scam involved someone calling claiming to be from the Social Security Department and telling the victim they have charges of drug trafficking and money laundering pending against them. The Corcoran Police Department encourages everyone to be cautious when receiving any call where the caller is asking for money or making unusual claims toward the person called. If you receive and suspicious calls you are encouraged to contact the Corcoran Police Department at (559)992-5151.
