On Thursday, January 9th, 2020, at approximately 5:55 p.m., the Rialto Police Department received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a traffic collision near the intersection of Riverside Ave. and Etiwanda Ave. in the City of Rialto. Officers from the Rialto Police Department and personnel from the Rialto Fire Department responded to the scene and found a deceased male pedestrian lying in the road and an injured driver in a black Honda Civic. The injured driver was transported to the local trauma center for treatment of his injuries. The deceased male was transported to the San Bernardino Coroner’s Office.

The Rialto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the collision investigation. Through roadway evidence and witness statements, investigators have been able to conclude that the male pedestrian parked his pickup truck in the center two way left turn lane of the 900 block of N. Riverside Ave. The black Honda Civic was traveling southbound in the #1 lane of Riverside Ave. As the Honda Civic continued southbound, the male exited his truck and without looking, walked westbound into the #1 southbound lane directly in the path of the Honda Civic. The driver was not able to avoid the collision and struck 75 year old Hossein Fallah, a resident of Upland. While turning left to avoid the collision, the driver of the Honda Civic lost control and struck a tree.
