INCIDENT: PC487 - Grand Theft

LOCATION: 32000 block of Live Oak Canyon Rd. Yucaipa

SUSPECT(S): Eddie Carter, 48 years old, resident of Chino
Jason Metz, 42 years old, resident of Pomona

VICTIM: Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Farm

SUMMARY:
On October 18, 2019, suspects Eddie Carter and Jason Metz drove a rented Budget van onto the Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Farm. The suspects drove alongside a standalone Automated Teller Machine (ATM), cut a security cable and pulled the ATM into the van. A short time later the suspects were captured on video surveillance dumping the empty ATM behind a business in the City of Calimesa. The ATM was cut open and approximately $19,000.00 in US currency was removed.

The rented Budget van used in the theft was identified and located approximately one week later in the city of Chino. The driver, Eddie Carter was taken into custody by Chino Police and was later identified as one of the two suspects involved in the crime. Approximately $2000 of stolen money was recovered from Carter. Carter was arrested for grand theft and for a felony warrant for attempted robbery out of Orange County. He was booked at Central Detention Center. The second suspect remained unidentified at that time.

Yucaipa Detectives continued the investigation and collected forensic evidence in attempt to identify Carter's accomplice. On December 30, 2019, Jason Metz was positively identified as the second suspect in the ATM theft through forensic evidence collected from inside the rental vehicle. Metz is currently in custody at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles County on unrelated charges and was already wanted in San Bernardino County on a felony stalking warrant. He will face additional charges for the ATM theft after he is released from Los Angeles County Jail.
