Pizza Hut

Staff received word and confirmed that Pizza Hut, located at 4401 W Elm Street, has closed its doors permanently.  Staff spoke to a District Representative from Pizza Hut who indicated Pizza Hut closed because their lease was up and the owner of the site was going to drastically increase the rent and the terms would not work financially for Pizza Hut.  Pizza Hut does like the market and is currently seeking another location in McHenry.

New City Planner

Cody Sheriff, newly-hired City Planner, started this week.  Cody’s primary responsibilities will be oversight of the Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as planning activities for the City.

Public Works

Projects—
  • Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – The contractor has provided temporary backfill adjacent to the sidewalk for safety reasons.  Due to weather, that area will be fully restored in the Spring. All street lights have been installed.  The contractor will continue wiring.  Final connection will be performed by ComEd.  The RE and contractor have been in contact with ComEd for service.  All road construction signs have been removed.  The contractor will provide construction signs only on the days that they will be working from this point forward.  The project is 95% complete.

  • Curran Road Highway Safety Improvement Program Project – There are two sections of guardrail that need to be installed.  The contractor was able to field verify that the AT&T phone cable is in direct conflict with the guardrail.   Per our franchise agreement with AT&T, the utility will relocate and/or abandon the line at AT&T’s expense.  They are currently working on a plan and should schedule the work in February or March.  The guardrail installation will commence thereafter.  The project is 95% complete.

Street Division—
  • During the week of December 23rd, crews took advantage of the warmer “spring-like” weather by completing ditching work and repairing potholes throughout the city.
  • Public Works crews responded to snow events on December 30th and 31st, working 13 hours and putting down 120 tons of salt.

Utility Division—
  • On Sunday, December 22nd, crews repaired a water main break at 1002 Hampton Court. There was no disruption in service during the repair.
  • On Tuesday, December 31st, Utility Division personnel were called out to Landmark School for a possible water main break. It was determined that the leak was on the private side of the b-box.  Water was shut off to the building and District 15 was notified.  The school district is currently working with a contractor to either repair or replace the water service.  In August of 2017, the City replaced the service from the water main to the b-box.
