Investigators are seeking information to identify the driver responsible for a fatal hit & run collision

LOCATION: Hesperia Road / Mojave Street, Hesperia
SUSPECT: Unknown
VICTIM: 40-year-old male, Transient
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, January 2, 2020, at approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies from the Hesperia Police Department responded to Hesperia Road reference a pedestrian laying unresponsive on the roadway. A witness driving in the northbound lane of Hesperia Road slowed down for what appeared to be debris on the roadway and discover the deceased male.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 40-year-old male laying on the northbound lane of Hesperia Road between Lemon Street and Mojave Street. The unidentified male sustained injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle. The San Bernardino County Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and the unidentified male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The northbound and southbound lanes of Hesperia Road were closed from Mojave Street to Lemon Street until approximately 8:00 a.m. At this point, it is unknown if speed or alcohol were a contributing factor in this collision. The identity of the decedent is pending next of kin notification by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
The Hesperia Police Department, Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and is investigating the collision as a fatal hit and run. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or might have information pertinent to the case is encouraged to contact the Hesperia Police Department.
