Rooftop Standoff (San Andreas, Ca)

On January 1, 2020 at about 8:00 PM the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious male knocking on doors near Market St, San Andreas. Upon arrival, deputies were advised the suspect had climbed on top of a residential roof in the 200 block of Market St (San Andreas, CA). Deputies set up a perimeter and began ordering the suspect to come down. The suspect refused to comply with the deputies orders, pulled up the ceramic roof tiles and began throwing them at deputies. The suspect stated he had a gun and was going to use it to harm the deputies. The suspect made gestures mimicking a handgun and stated he was only coming down if deputies use lethal force. Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene to continue communications with the suspect. Additional resources were also summoned to the scene to assist. The California Highway Patrol assisted with perimeter duties. While the San Andreas Fire Department assisted with scene lighting and a ladder to access the roof.
At 11:30 PM the suspect eventually agreed to peacefully end the standoff. He was taken into custody and transported jail. Suspect Nicolas Gallegos (26 year old, San Joaquin County, CA) was charged with Penal Code 245 (A) (1) Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Felony), Penal Code 245(C) Assault with a Deadly Weapon against Peace Officer and Fire Personnel (Felony), Penal Code 594(B) (1) (Felony), Penal Code 148 (A)(1) Obstruct or Delay a Peace Officer (Misdemeanor). He is being held with a bail of $95,000.
