Man arrested after South Campus shooting on 12/26

On December 26th at 7:29 pm, officers responded to the 2400 block of Durant Avenue after receiving numerous reports of gunfire in the area.  At the scene, officers found several bullet holes in a local business storefront as well as several expended bullet casings on the sidewalk.  After speaking with several witnesses in the area, officers also learned that there were numerous bystanders who were nearly struck by the gunfire.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the shooting appeared to have occurred during a dispute involving several people.  The shooter in this incident was identified as Rashad Glenn Albert (Male, 26 years old, Berkeley, CA) and detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On December 29th, officers arrested Rashad Albert after he caused a disturbance at a local business and threatened to shoot the employees.

Today, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Rashad Albert with assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabiting vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm as well as several criminal enhancements.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in keeping our community safe.  We appreciate the public’s support and are pleased that we were able to bring justice to those who wish to do harm to our community.
