Jackson Police continue investigating a shooting that occurred at a local Sonic.

Investigators with the Jackson Police Department continue to investigate a shooting that occurred at 112 W. University Parkway, Sonic.

On December 28th 2019 at 5:00 PM, officers of the Jackson Police Department responded to a shooting on the parking lot of Sonic Drive-In located at 112 W. University Parkway.  Preliminary investigations indicate the shooting occurred during a drug deal; the drug deal took place inside of a Ford F-150 pickup truck which was parked on the lot of Sonic.  Immediately following the shooting, a silver sedan and a F-150 truck were captured on surveillance video leaving the parking lot.

One of the suspects involved in the drug transaction, along with the silver sedan, was located by Jackson Police at 3162 N. Highland, Circle K.  This suspect was located suffering with gunshot wounds.  A second suspect involved in the drug transaction, along with the F-150 truck, was located in a field off of Demonbreun Dr.  When located, this suspect was also suffering with gunshot injuries.  The F-150 truck and license plate had both been previously reported stolen from Nashville.  Both individuals, that sustained injuries from gunfire during the apparent drug deal, are currently hospitalized due to their injuries.  Investigators believe two other people were inside the truck at the time of the drug transaction and shooting.

Neither individual injured in this situation were residents of Jackson or Madison County.  It’s not uncommon for drug dealers to travel to other cities to conduct illegal activities in an effort to evade law enforcement encounters.  It is also not uncommon for robberies and/or shootings to occur during drug deals because cash, drugs, and guns are present when transactions take place.

The Jackson Police Department continues to investigate this incident and will prosecute all crimes committed based on the evidence obtained through the investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this incident or any other criminal activity are asked to contact the Jackson Police Department Criminal Investigative Division at 731-425-8400 or Jackson Madison County Metro Narcotics at 731-424-6485 or Crime Stoppers at www.jmcrimestoppers.org
