Threatening Phone Call - Crossgates Mall - Arrest
On 12/30/2019 the Guilderland Police Department received a report that a disturbing phone message was left with the Albany Times Union over the previous weekend. The individual indicated he was going to bring "a militia" to Crossgates Mall and used several racial slurs. Members of the Guilderland Police Department conducted an investigation and identified a suspect, Gary M. Grzybowski, age 66, residing at 6728 Pikes Lane, Louisiana. With the assistance of the Baton Rouge Police Department the suspect was positively identified, arrested, and issued a criminal citation for violating Louisiana Revised Statute, Title 14:40.1 - Terrorizing.
While it appears the suspect did not have direct access to weapons the threatening statements made by him were taken very seriously. His threat was determined to be ficticious and no actual threat to the mall.
The Guilderland Police Department would like to thank the members of the Baton Rouge Police Department for their efforts and assistance in this case. We would also like to commend the staff at the Albany Times Union for "seeing something/saying something" by reporting this incident to our office for investigation.
