Advisory

Pledge to ring in the New Year safely. Let the good choices you make tonight set the tone for the New Year.

The San Mateo Police Department wishes everyone a safe and Happy New Year! In order to do so, we hope you’ll make appropriate choices when celebrating this New Year’s Eve. Know that driving under the influence, as well as celebratory gun fire is dangerous for everyone. There’s just no good excuse for either.

The ripple effects of DUI driving destroys lives. Have a plan to either designate a driver, use a ride share service, AAA, or contact one of our certified taxi companies. Also, don’t forget about free train rides offered by Caltrain starting on Dec. 31st at 8pm.

AAA SAFE RIDES FOR EVERYONE: Free towing within a 10-mile radius for non-members and members. https://newsroom.aaa.com/safety/holiday-safe-ride-program/

CALTRAIN FREE RIDES ON NEW YEAR’S EVE: How to Catch a Free Train Ride on New Year’s Eve (The last train leaves San Francisco at 2 am on Jan. 1st.) http://www.caltrain.com/schedules/holidayservice.html

SMPD CERTIFIED TAXI PROVIDERS: Luxor Cab (650)344-1414, Merit Taxi (650)571-0606, and Yellow Cab (650)342-1234

REPORT DUI DRIVING: Please don’t hesitate to report suspected drunk or impaired drivers immediately to police by calling 911. With your help, we can combat this dangerous crime together and save lives. Some visible signs of impaired driving include quick acceleration/deceleration, tailgating, weaving, or zigzagging across the road, almost striking an object, curb, or vehicle, stopping without cause or erratic braking, or drifting in and out of lanes of traffic.

In regard to celebratory gunfire, please remember "what goes up, must come down." Don't be responsible for harming someone just because you want to make some noise to ring in the New Year. They make noise makers for that!

We want to make sure EVERYONE is able to start fresh in the new year. Set the tone for an awesome year by making good choices on how you end it!

Happy New Year's Eve!
