San Mateo, CA – On Sunday, December 22, 2019 at 6:45 P.M., San Mateo Police Department officers arrested a suspect following a hit and run where a pedestrian was struck and severely wounded in the unit block of N Humboldt Street. Witnesses called police during the incident and some saw multiple young people running from the suspect vehicle after it was debilitated by colliding into parked cars. The driver was subsequently identified and arrested in front of his home on a multitude of charges. The injured pedestrian was airlifted to a regional trauma center for his injures and is currently undergoing treatment.

Driving while impaired is illegal, whether it is alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, or marijuana, and there are so many ways to get home safely without driving. Not only is it dangerous and irresponsible, impaired driving causes too many senseless tragedies. If you plan on drinking, smoking marijuana, or are taking medications that can affect your driving ability, designate a sober driver or use a ride-share service. If you see someone driving impaired, call 911.
