Public Works
Projects—
  • Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – The contractor has provided temporary backfill adjacent to the sidewalk for safety reasons.  Due to weather, that area will be fully restored in the Spring. All street lights have been installed.  The contractor will continue wiring.  Final connection will be performed by ComEd.  The RE and contractor have been in contact with ComEd for service.  All road construction signs have been removed.  The contractor will provide construction signs only on the days that they will be working from this point forward.  The project is 95% complete.

  • Curran Road Highway Safety Improvement Program Project – There are two sections of guardrail that need to be installed.  The contractor was able to field verify that the AT&T phone cable is in direct conflict with the guardrail.   Per our franchise agreement with AT&T, the utility will relocate and/or abandon the line at AT&T’s expense.  They are currently working on a plan and should schedule the work in February or March.  The guardrail installation will commence thereafter.  The contractor is currently grouting the previously installed culvert liner.  That work will be completed by December 20th with periodic lane closures.  The project is 95% complete.

Calls of Note:

On Thursday, December 12th, 2019 a Burglary to Business was reported at Merlin 200,000 Miles Shop (3926 W. Elm Street).  During the previous overnight hours, unknown person(s) forcibly entered the business and removed United States Currency.  This incident is being investigated by the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, December 15th, 2019, officers responded to the area of Green Street and Ellen Road for a reported vehicle crash.  Officers discovered a vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole causing the pole to fall into the roadway.  The damage to the utility pole affected power to numerous residences in that area.  Due to this location being in the jurisdiction of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, MCSO deputies responded to the scene and investigated the traffic crash.  McHenry officers protected the scene until ComEd could remove and replace the utility pole.

Public Relations:

Mayor Jett, Chief Birk and police department staff members had the honor of participating in McHenry Sunrise Rotary’s Secret Santa program.  Many families in McHenry County are desperately struggling due to unexpected job loss, death of a wage earner, divorce or abandonment, illness, disability or other crisis.  Children in these families might not otherwise experience the joy of a gift to unwrap on Christmas.  MPD staff members helped wrap and deliver donated gifts throughout McHenry County.
