Officers with the Marion Police Department are investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday December 19, 2019 at or around 8:24 PM. The traffic incident occurred on Highway 70 West in Marion, near Lowe's Hardware. Officers located 35 year old Donald Helms (Marion) laying on the roadway. Helms had been struck by a motor vehicle driven by 57 year old Samuel Bowman Jr. (Marion). Helms was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment. At this time, the investigation in ongoing, and no further information will be released.
