It is that time of year again for celebrating with fireworks. Before using fireworks you should know how to use them safely. In order to protect your loved ones and our community, please do not discharge fireworks:

(1) At, into, in, through or against any building or vehicle.

(2) In or near the City landfill, or any other landfill or dump site.

(3) In or near dry grass.

(4) At or towards any person or animal.

(5) In or near any area designated as a fur seal rookery (CCO 6.05.010(b), Fur Seal Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, U.S. 50 CFR Section 216).

(6) In or near any area designated as bird cliffs (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Regulations 50 CFR).

(7) When under the influence of any intoxicants, including alcohol, controlled substances, or medication causing impairment.

(8) In winds of more than 25 miles an hour.

(9) When such discharge has the possibility of disturbing marine mammals and nesting birds.

(11) Specifically, salable aerial fireworks in or around residential areas. Salable aerial fireworks may be used in open areas such as the ball field, other nongrassy open areas, or nongrassy open areas over water.

(12) During the hours of 2:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

This past 4th of July holiday there were several residents that discharged fireworks after 2 am. This can cause a distrubance to your neigbors that might be sleeping. Additionally, serveral residents discharge aerial (ones that shoot up into the air, including bottle rockets) fireworks in and around their homes. This posses a undo risk to homes and buildings nearby if the fireworks were to malfunciton, which could cause them to land on a roof and cause a fire. In order to prevent fires please use aerial fireworks on the ball field or out of town.

Please be safe and respectful when using fireworks. Public Safety will be enforcing the Fireworks Safety Rules. For the full rules on use of fireworks please see Have a safe and fun new year.
