Update: Mayor Joe Hogsett, Chief Bryan Roach to swear in IMPD 20th Recruit Class

NDIANAPOLIS - Monday December 16th, 2019, Mayor Joseph Hogsett will join Chief Bryan Roach to swear-in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) 20th Recruit Class.  These recruits will receive 28 weeks of classroom and scenario-based training as well as 20 weeks of training in the field through our Field Training Officer program.This is the longest police academy ever for IMPD recruits. The IMPD Academy will place an emphasis on increased communication skills, de-escalation skills, recognition of mental health issues, training to deal with those in crisis, cultural awareness, implicit bias and realistic scenario based training to gauge decision-making abilities.

The 20th recruit class consists of 65 total recruits: 33 White males, 4 Black males, 6 Latino males, 2 males who identify as other, 15 White females, 1 Black female, 2 Latina females and 2 females who identify as other. Additionally, the 20th Recruit Class will consist of 31% female recruits, this is the largest percent ever in the history of IMPD.
