Original Message:
Officers are currently negotiating with a suspect who has barricaded himself on top of a building in the Warm Springs Area.

This incident began around 10:30 a.m. when patrol officers responded to a home invasion robbery that had occurred in the 300 block of Woodcreek Terrace.  Multiple oficers responded and learned a man had broken and entered a residence through the window.  The residence was occupied, but the female resident didn't initailly hear the man. After approximately 10 minutes, the woman went to investigate noises and was confronted by the suspect in her home.  He physically assaulted her and then fled the home with some of her belongings.

An alert neighbor heard the victim scream and saw the man running.  Multiple callers provided a good description to dispatchers.  Officers and detectives continued to search the area and at approximately 11:30 a.m., a man matching the description (later verified with video from the victim residence), was observed entering a construction site at the corner of Warm Springs Blvd. and Brown Rd.

Officers set up a perimeter and the workers were safely evacuated.  The man went to the top of the 5-story building, where he remains.  The man is not believed to be armed, but he does have access to building supplies and materials, including gasoline and accelerants.  He has thrown several objects down from the top of the buildingn at officers and refuses to surrender.

Negotiators are actively communicating with the man and our primary concern is his welfare.

The female victim sustainend a minor injury but did not require medical treatment.

The area of Warm Springs Blvd. and Brown Rd. remains closed.

The man may also be a suspect in several package thefts that occurred in the same area, earlier in the morning.

Regular updates will be available on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.  Please follow us there for verified information.

Media:  We ask that you please not send helicopters to the area.  The noise has slowed down our negotiations on multiple occassions now and we cannot hear the suspect on the phone we are using.  This has become a signficant challenge for us.
