Narrative:
On December 10th at about 1045 a.m., patrol deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Moorpark Patrol Station responded to a robbery call at the Villa Del Arroyo mobile home park, 15750 Arroyo Drive, Moorpark.  When they arrived, deputies learned that a 65 year old male resident of the mobile home park confronted two suspects as they attempted to steal some of the resident’s property that was sitting in his driveway.  When the victim attempted to film the suspects with his phone, the suspects battered the victim and took an additional piece of property.  Detectives from the Moorpark Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and assisted patrol deputies with the investigation.

While detectives and deputies were collecting evidence at the mobile home park, they were made aware of a report of a package theft that had just occurred in a nearby neighborhood and noted the similarity in the description of the suspects. Detectives assisted deputies with that investigation as well, and between the two crime scenes, detectives were able to identify the suspects, as Omar Zaragoza, 24 years old of Moorpark, and Ruben Amezcua, 26 years old of Moorpark.

Later that evening, detectives located Zaragoza as he was driving home and arrested him.  Detectives located a significant amount of evidence in Zaragoza’s vehicle, linking Zaragoza to both crime scenes, as well as an additional package theft that was reported earlier that evening.

The following day, detectives arrested Amezcua in front of his residence.

Zaragoza was charged with felony theft and drug related charges, while Amezcua was charged with robbery and theft related charges.  Both suspects are currently being held at the Ventura County Main Jail pending trial.
