Winter Storm Watch until 12:00AM Monday

...Atmospheric River to Bring Periods of Moderate to Heavy Mountain Snow... .A prolonged atmospheric river event will bring moderate snow to the western Colorado mountains as well as the southern mountains in southeast Utah through Sunday with a few periods of heavy snow. Snow showers will generally favor the northern and central mountains today with a decrease in snow intensity this evening. Showers will then spread south late tonight and continue through Sunday before showers taper off from north to south.

* WHAT...Moderate to heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Expect lower amounts of 1 to 4 inches across the lower elevations of southeast Utah near the La Sal and Abajo mountains. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...In Utah, La Sal and Abajo Mountains. In Colorado, Southwest San Juan Mountains, Northwest San Juan Mountains and Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide.

* WHEN...From this evening through Sunday evening. Heaviest snow rates expected Saturday evening through Sunday evening.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially on ridge tops and mountain passes. A detailed map of the snowfall can be found at: www.weather.gov/gjt/winter.
