LOCATION: Interstate 15 near Palmdale Road, Victorville
SUSPECT: Zachariah Barajas, 28-year old San Bernardino resident
SUMMARY:
On December 11, 2019, Deputy T. Broadway with the Victorville Police Department, attempted to make a traffic stop on a Ford F250 on southbound Interstate 15. The driver of the Ford failed to yield, and a pursuit was initiated.
The driver exited the freeway at Palmdale Road and continued evading deputies for almost seven miles. The pursuit terminated near Hwy 395 and Hook, when the Ford became disabled in a ditch. Deputies discovered there was a passenger in the vehicle who was unable to exit the vehicle during the pursuit due to the driver’s reckless behavior and refusal to stop and let the passenger out. The vehicle was found to have been reported stolen from Chino at the end of November.
The driver, identified as Zachariah Barajas, was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for Evading a Peace Officer, Kidnapping, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Vehicle Theft. He is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on December 13, 2019.
