City of Hoboken Construction Update

Filming The Trial of the Chicago 7:

Filming will occur near the intersection of Garden and 14th Streets from Sunday 12/8/2019 through Monday 12/9/2019 for the feature film, The Trial of the Chicago 7

Road Closure: From 3 PM through early morning hours on Sunday 12/8/2019 and 3 PM through early morning hours on Monday 12/9/2019, 14th Street will be closed from Washington Street to Park Avenue and Garden Street will be closed from 13th to 14th Street. 

Detour: From 3 PM through early morning hours on Sunday 12/8/2019 and 3 PM through early morning hours on Monday 12/9/2019, buses from Hoboken terminal to Port Authority will skip the following stops: 11th and Washington Streets, 13th and Washington Streets, and 14th Street between Bloomfield and Garden Streets. Buses from Port Authority to Hoboken Terminal will skip the following stops: 14th Street between Park Avenue and Garden Street, 14th Street between Bloomfield and Washington Streets, and 12th and Washington Street.

Some street lights in the area will be turned off during filming, and a water based haze will be used as a smoke effect. Film production trailers will park on Washington Street between 14th and 15th Streets, and at the vacant lot north of Harborside Park. 

Water Infrastructure Upgrades:

The City continues with the first phase of its water main replacement project, which will replace a total of 15 blocks, or 7,000 linear feet of Hoboken’s oldest water mains. Construction will occur for the excavation and installation of new water mains from 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday 12/9/2019 through Friday 12/13/2019. 

  • Garden Street between 4nd Street and 5th Street,  closed on Monday, 12/09/19 through Friday, 12/13/19  for work excavation and installation of pipe. No water service interruptions are anticipated in this work area.
  • Garden Street between Observer Hwy and Newark Street will be closed on Tuesday, 12/10/19 through Friday, 12/13/19 for turnover of from existing services to new services. There will be temporary service interruptions for individual residents for up to an hour during the turnover. Each affected building will be notified by posting on the door.
Parking will be restricted during this time as well

Northwest Resiliency Park:
Construction continues on the 5 acre Northwest Resiliency Park, which will be New Jersey’s largest resiliency park. Construction will occur from 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday 12/9/2019 through Friday 12/13/2019 for the underground storage tank, which will have the capacity to store up to 1 million gallons of rainwater to reduce flooding. Work activity includes driving steel piles for the underground storage tank, which will take place for several weeks. There will be some noise and vibration associated with this work. PSE&G Tree Pruning:

PSE&G will be trimming trees on Bloomfield, Hudson, and 5th Streets from 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday 12/9/2019. This will complete the pruning work required every 4 years by the NJ Board of Public Utilities to keep power lines clear of vegetation is crucial to the safety and reliability of electric service. PSE&G has provided informational door-hangers to notify residents next to affected trees. The tree trimming does not include the removal of any trees; only pruning.
