Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 11-26-19 at 11:08 p.m., Officer Mahan and other officers were dispatched to the In N Out restaurant on Gellert Boulevard on a report of a fight in progress involving four people inside the restaurant. As the officer approached the restaurant, he said several patrons pointed to a vehicle that was screeching its tires as it was backing out of a parking spot. The vehicle continued to back up until it collided into a parked vehicle. As Officer Mahan approached the vehicle, he noticed a female driver let off the gas, attempt to adjust the shifter and then accelerate again, backing up and colliding into the same vehicle a second time. Officer Mahan told the driver to shut off the engine and exit the vehicle. The driver opened the door, and the officer immediately noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the victim’s person. Officer Mahan said the driver refused to take any field sobriety tests except the breath test. After failing the test, the subject was transported to the station. Officer Brenes assisted in the pre-booking process. The subject told Officer Brenes she had to use the restroom, and Officer Brenes was nearby and heard the sound of plastic ripping. Officer Brenes said the subject had thrown a baggie of Xanax pills into the toilet. During this time, the subject threatened the officer. Officer Dhaliwal transported the subject, a 27-year old Daly City resident, to jail where deputies located additional Xanax pills inside the subject’s bra. The subject was charged with driving under the influence, threatening a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, destroying/concealing evidence, bringing a controlled substance into jail, driving with a suspended driver's license, and driving while uninsured.

On Wednesday, 11-27-19 at 3:50 p.m., Officer Moody was on patrol on the 100 block of South Mayfair Avenue and saw a male subject who appeared to be sleeping or falling asleep while standing. Officer Moody recognized this subject who had previously been reported by Westlake Security for refusing to leave the area. The officer said the subject agreed to walk himself to the BART station but appeared to fall asleep while walking. The subject provided a false name to the officer and exhibited signs of being under the influence. Officer Moody placed the subject under arrest and transported him to the station. The subject finally gave his correct name while at the police station. The 28-year old transient subject was booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for falsely identifying himself to a police officer.

On Friday, 11-29-19 at approximately 10:43 a.m., Officer Haas and other officers were dispatched to a report of a theft at the Target store. The loss prevention officers saw the two suspects exit the store into the parking lot. As Officer Haas approached the shopping center, he was given a description of the vehicle the suspects entered. The loss prevention officer advised that he saw a suspect conceal gaming headphones into a white bag he brought to the store with him. The loss prevention officer confronted the suspect after he left the store with the merchandise. Officer Dolan was nearby and effected a traffic stop on the vehicle at the 280 north on ramp/John Daly Boulevard split. Other officers arrived, and they conducted a search of the two suspects and the vehicle. Officer Haas opened the trunk and found a black Glock model 30 pistol that was not in a secure container. Officer Haas arrested the driver, a 28-year old Daly City resident, for attempted commercial burglary and possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle. The passenger, a 22-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle and for possession of a burglary tool.

On Saturday, 11-30-19 at 12:39 a.m., Officer Arguelles and Officer Ciucci conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on the 100 block of Reiner Street. The driver, a 38-year old San Leandro resident, was arrested for driving under the influence and resisting/obstructing/delaying a police officer. The passenger, a 37-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for resisting/obstructing/delaying a police officer.

On Saturday, 11-30-19 at 10:55 p.m., Officer Maddison and Officer Greene were dispatched to the unit block of Shelbourne Avenue on a report of shots fired. Officer Greene contacted a male who had a firearm in the front of the waistband of his pants standing in front of a residence on the 300 block of Higate Drive. Officer Greene detained the subject, along with his sister, who both said they just left a house party. Officer Maddison contacted a resident at the house and advised her there were reports of gunfire and that a subject was in possession of a firearm and spent ammunition was detained. Officer Maddison requested and was given consent to enter the residence to check on the welfare of the people present. Officer Maddison entered the living room and saw 20-30 people inside who all appeared to be between 25-30 years old. The officer also smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverages throughout the residence and said most people appeared to be partially to heavily intoxicated. Other officers checked the remainder of the residence to make sure nobody was injured. In the back yard, Officer Ciucci found bullet shell casings matching the gun the subject possessed. The subject, a 23-year old Richmond resident, was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm on his person, possession of large capacity magazines, negligent discharge of a firearm, and possession of a concealed firearm not registered to a person. Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there.
