UPDATE:
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Detectives have arrested 32-year-old Derek Oechsle for his alleged involvement in the murders of 41-year-old Christopher Smith. No booking photo available at this time.
A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

INCIDENT TYPE: Homicide Investigation
INCIDENT LOCATION: 1280 W. Southport Road
INDIANAPOLIS - On November 29, 2019, just after 9:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to 1280 W. Southport road on a call for a person shot. When officers arrived, they located two men with gunshot wounds. The first male was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Despite the best life saving techniques, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second was transported to Eskenazi hospital in serious condition.
Homicide detectives responded and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The MCCO will release the name of the decedent once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
