Public meeting for proposed amendment to Public Works Garage Redevelopment Plan

Residents are invited to join a community meeting regarding proposed amendments to the Public Works Garage Site Redevelopment Plan, specific to the Block 1, Lots 11-14 (83 Willow Avenue) subarea. The site is located at the intersection of Newark Street and Willow Avenue, and is an existing surface parking lot; the subarea does not include the Hoboken Public Works Garage facility. The meeting will take place on Monday, December 9 at 6:30pm at the Multi-Service Center (124 Grand Street). All members of the public interested in the amended plan are encouraged to attend.

The Public Works Garage Site Redevelopment Plan was adopted in 2006 and subsequently amended in 2008. The existing parking lot is owned by 83 Willow Ave Apartments, LLC. The redevelopment plan calls for R-1 overlay zoning for the subject site, Lots 11-14. If the amendment is adopted by the City Council, the revised zoning would allow 83 Willow Avenue Apartments, LLC to build an 11-story, 42-unit residential building with ground floor retail and 72 parking spaces. Site plans will be presented to the public at the community meeting.

The City Council, the redevelopment entity of the City of Hoboken, may consider both the amended redevelopment plan and a redevelopment agreement at a future City Council meeting. If the redevelopment plan is adopted on first reading at a future meeting by the City Council, it will be reviewed for Master Plan consistency by the Planning Board, and then heard for a vote on second reading by the Council.
