INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road West of Jess Ranch Parkway (bridge crossing the Mojave River), Town of Apple Valley

VEHICLE #1: Red 1998 Chevy Camaro - names withheld pending notification of next of kin

VEHICLE #2: White 1994 Toyota Pickup Truck - adult male a resident of Lucerne Valley

SUMMARY: On November 29, 2019, at about 6:52 a.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station, emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision involving two vehicles on the Bear Valley Road bridge crossing the Mojave River, in the Town of Apple Valley.

Investigators from the Apple Valley Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) were called to the scene and assumed the investigation. Through preliminary investigation, it was determined that the Camaro was traveling eastbound on Bear Valley Road when the driver lost control due to black ice on the roadway. The Camaro slid sideways across the eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes of Bear Valley Road directly into the path of the Toyota. The vehicles collided in the westbound lanes.

A female passenger in the Camaro was transported to a local area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Camaro was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota was also transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.
