News Release: Home Intruder Startles Sleeping Residents; Police Capture Suspect

Police arrested a suspect after he burglarized a home and then robbed the homeowner before fleeing. Police arrested him shortly after in a neighbor’s yard. On Monday, November 25, 2019 at around 2:13 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a home invasion that was occurring in the 2200 block of Ramona Street. The preliminary investigation revealed the victim, an adult female in her teens, woke up after hearing noises outside her second story bedroom. When she looked up, she saw an unknown male suspect opening her bathroom door. The victim immediately texted the homeowner who was sleeping in a downstairs bedroom to alert her. The suspect made his way downstairs and confronted the homeowner, a female in her forties, who had also woken up after hearing noises. The suspect demanded money from her. Out of fear for her safety and her two daughters who were sleeping in nearby bedroom, she gave him money. The suspect fled through a kitchen door with the money and stolen property. He jumped a backyard fence causing damage to it. Neither of the victims were physically harmed by the suspect. Officers arrived and captured the suspect in the backyard of the home next door to the victims. He surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. Police found the victim’s electronics he had stolen from the home in his pockets. During the investigation, officers determined the suspect had been on the property and had also stolen items from the detached garage prior to confronting the victims in the home. Police determined the suspect had entered the home by using a ladder to access an open second story window. Police arrested 29-year-old Dwight Ronnel Tucker of East Palo Alto and booked him into the San Jose Main Jail for two counts of robbery, two counts of burglary, extortion, vandalism (all felonies), and prowling (misdemeanor). His booking photo is attached to this release (note: the booking photo has been removed pursuant to AB994 as of December 2023). Detectives do not believe Tucker is connected to any recent home burglaries. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.
