*UPDATE* #LASD Homicide Detectives Responded to Deputy Involved Shooting, Kern Ave/Whittier Blvd, Unincorp East L.A.

Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting in East Los Angeles.
On Monday, November 25, 2019 at approximately 3:50 PM, a marked Sheriff’s two person patrol unit assigned to East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station contacted the occupants of a parked 90’s gold Mercury Mountaineer sport utility vehicle.  The contact occurred in a parking lot near the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Kern Avenue.

Deputies approached the vehicle and contacted two to three male occupants.  The deputies noticed the driver of the Mountaineer reaching around inside the vehicle and produced a handgun.  A deputy involved shooting occurred.  The suspects fled the scene in the Mountaineer but were later captured near the intersection of Mednik Avenue and 3rd Street where the suspects’ vehicle was abandoned.

A loaded handgun was recovered at the scene of the vehicle recovery.  One suspect sustained abrasions to his arm as a result of the incident.  He was treated and released.  Two suspects are in custody and their identity will not be released at this time.  No deputies were injured as a result of this incident.
