Fairfield Police Department PHONE SCAM ALERT. See e-mail.
This is a message from the Fairfield Police Department regarding a phone scam that may target Fairfield residents and/or businesses. Unknown callers will contact victim claiming to be with the FBI and telling them that a car was recovered with blood and a large amount of money in it that they claim is registered to the victim. They tell the victim that they are working with the Fairfield Police Department and that they will have the police department contact them. The victim is then contacted by an unknown individual with a number that appears on caller ID to be coming from the Fairfield Police Department but is an actual false internet phone number. The victim is then advised to cooperate with the FBI when they call back. The victim is then told to go to various stores and locations to purchase gift cards. The suspects then tell the victims to give them the card numbers and for them to shred the cards.
If you receive a phone call like this, do not act on it. Instead come to the Fairfield Police Department to inquire in person about what you were told. Again, as a reminder, never send anything of value of give any personal information to unknown callers.
