On November 23, 2019 at 11:52 AM, Escondido Police and Escondido Fire responded to a vehicle versus bicycle collision in the 1600 block of La Honda Dr, in Escondido. Officers arrived minutes later and found a bicyclist down in the street. The driver of the involved vehicle had fled the scene.

The initial investigation revealed the bicyclist was riding south on La Honda Dr. and collided head-on with a dark color Toyota sedan which was driving north on La Honda Dr. The bicyclist, a 36-year-old male, suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The dark Toyota sedan involved in the collision was later recovered in the 600 block of Aster St.

Currently, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision. The cause of this collision is under investigation by Officer Adan Martinez of the Escondido Police Department Traffic Division.
