A person is calling Fayette County residents today telling them they have missed jury duty (or similar lie) and must pay to avoid arrest. The payment is supposed to be made on a pre-paid card purchased locally. Usually totals about $1,000.00.

This is a SCAM......

Please tell everyone you know that law enforcement does not solicit payments this way. These criminals will be very convincing and often use names that you recognize from our Sheriff's Office and Courts. The fraudster will even attempt to stay in character while speaking to us.

The only way these criminals will stop preying on our citizens is by getting the word out to as many people as possible. Educating our friends and loved ones about this scam is the only sure method of stopping it.
