SCHOOL REFERENDUM UPDATE - NOVEMBER 2019

Dear Fair Haven Families,

I am writing to provide a brief update on progress towards the referendum projects that we are so thankful that our community passed on September 24th of this year.

We are working diligently to pursue the projects, and I look forward to sharing consistent updates throughout this process to ensure our community is informed of the exciting progress being made.

We are currently in the process of bonding, and expect to complete this by the end of December. We are optimistic that the rate that will be issued for our district will actually be more beneficial than originally communicated through our presentations over the past 6 months. We look forward to updating the community with the official interest rate once our funding process is closed.

We have also engaged the Borough formally in discussions of what improvements can be made at Sickles School in the area of Willow Street and McCarter Park to improve the parking and school traffic conditions. Those conversations have been encouraging and we are very thankful for the support and goodwill that the Borough Administration, Mayor, and Council have shown us on these matters.

We have been reviewing our plans for next year’s academic school calendar and are happy to report that we do not expect to have significant modifications made to the calendar as a result of our upcoming construction.  While we have not yet approved the school calendar for 2020-21, we can definitively share that students will not begin school prior to Labor Day, which is Monday, September 7th. We are looking to formally approve next year’s school calendar soon, and will share that calendar with the community at that time.

We have also had more formal discussions with our architect about construction schedules and will be further discussing these plans in the coming months as we develop our bidding process and guidelines for the companies who will be vying to complete our projects

In exciting news, we are also looking forward to our first ever full day Kindergarten registration which will take place this December into January. Be on the lookout for that exciting information next month!

Finally, we are in the process of transitioning our referendum website to provide updates on our projects. Please feel free to check in with us on the website which can be found on our homepage at www.fairhaven.edu. Click “Referendum” on the top of the page to follow our progress and please feel free to use the email address linked there to submit any questions you may have and we will be sure to get back to you in a timely manner.

Thank you all for your support as we work together to improve our school district and our beautiful community!
