Robbery Suspects Arrested

Four men and one juvenile female, who primarily targeted the elderly population within the Asian Community, have been arrested and charged for a series of grand thefts and strong-arm robberies that occurred recently in San Leandro.  The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged 19-year-old San Leandro resident, Noah Moreno, and 20-year-old Oakland resident, Elijah Henry with the following violations:

Moreno:  211 PC (2 counts), 530.5 PC, 10851 VC, and felony probation violation
Henry: 211 PC (2 counts) and a felony probation violation

The case against the 17-year-old female suspect, who participated in these grand thefts and robberies with Moreno and Henry, has been submitted to juvenile hall for charging purposes.

At 10:31AM, on November 7, 2019, San Leandro Police Detectives arrested Moreno, Henry, and the 17-year-old female, after they committed a strong-arm robbery at the New Sang Chong Market, in the 13700 block of Doolittle Drive.  It is believed that Henry pushed an elderly female onto the ground from behind and forcefully ripped a purse from her shoulder as she was walking to her car from the market.  After unlawfully obtaining the purse from the victim, Henry fled the area in a silver SUV that was occupied by Moreno and the 17-year-old female suspect. Shortly after reporting the robbery, the victim received information that her credit card had been used at a Chevron gas station in the 21500 block of Foothill Boulevard in Hayward.  Detectives immediately responded to the gas station and gathered evidence that led to the identity of the 17-year-old juvenile and a detailed description of the suspect vehicle, which was identified as a 2009 silver Honda Pilot.

Based on previous grand thefts and robberies that occurred in the days prior to this robbery, detectives believed that they were actively pursuing the same suspects that were involved in the previous robberies and established surveillance at Bay Mall in San Leandro and Southland Mall in Hayward.  A common characteristic in each of the robberies was that the victim’s credit cards were immediately used at sporting good stores at those malls following each robbery.

About 12:00PM, a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle drove into a Southland Mall parking lot and parked.  Detectives conducted a records check on the license plate, which revealed the vehicle was reported stolen to the San Leandro Police Department.  The occupants of the vehicle, who also matched the descriptions provided by witnesses of the robbery, exited the SUV and walked into the mall.  A short time later, the suspects returned to the suspect vehicle.  As they were entering the SUV, SLPD detectives attempted to stop and detain all three due to their involvement in the robbery.  The 17-year-old female was taken into custody without incident.  However, Moreno and Henry fled on foot and, after a short foot pursuit, were taken into custody.  During a search of the suspect vehicle, evidence was found that linked the suspects to the robbery and additional robberies that were not exclusive to San Leandro.  Those robbery investigations will not be referred to in this press release and may be addressed by those law enforcement agencies when appropriate.

The investigation into these robberies further revealed that these same three suspects were believed to be responsible for three other robberies that occurred at the same location, New Sang Chong Market, on various dates.

On October 28, 2019, at 6:55PM, a 47-year-old Asian female was loading groceries into her vehicle when a silver sport utility vehicle pulled up next to her.  A suspect, whom she could not describe, took her purse from out of her shopping cart and fled the area.

On October 29, 2019, at 5:50PM, a 61-year-old Asian female was loading her groceries into her vehicle when the 17-year-old female juvenile suspect took the victim’s purse out of the victim’s car and fled in a silver sport utility vehicle.

On October 31, 2019, at 1:55PM, a 71-year-old Asian female victim was loading groceries into her vehicle when an unknown suspect grabbed the victim’s purse from her shopping cart.  This time, the suspects fled in a silver Acura MDX that was identified and later determined to be registered to the parents of the 17-year-old female juvenile suspect.

Moreno and Henry are being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.  The case against the 17-year-old juvenile suspect has been submitted to juvenile hall for review and charging purposes.

On November 12, 2019, at 1:30PM, San Leandro Police Detectives arrested 20-year-old, Hayward resident, Aaron Duran, and 19-year-old Hayward resident, Jamont Baldwin, in Alameda after an investigation led detectives to believe that Duran and Baldwin were responsible for a grand theft that occurred in the Costco parking lot, 1900 Davis Street, on November 11, 2019 at 7:14PM.

The 66-year-old female victim was loading groceries into her vehicle and left her purse on the front passenger seat.  Unbeknownst to the victim, two suspects approached her vehicle, look into the front passenger side of the vehicle, and stole her purse. The suspects then ran from the victim’s vehicle and fled the area in a burgundy SUV.

Upon learning of this theft, detectives immediately began their investigation and were able to identify and locate the suspect vehicle, a 2009 Toyota Rav4, parked at Jamont Baldwin’s house in Hayward.  Surveillance was established and the Toyota was followed until it stopped in the 500 block of Wille Stargell Avenue in Alameda. Jamont Baldwin was observed “wiping down” the Toyota and discarding items in bushes.  Detectives attempted to detain Jamont Baldwin and Aaron Duran, but both ran away on foot in an attempt to avoid apprehension.  Detectives gave chase and both were taken into custody.  A search was conducted of the Toyota and the bushes near where the Toyota was parked, and evidence was located that implicated Baldwin in the theft from the Costco parking lot that occurred the previous day and to additional robberies that did not occur in San Leandro.

Baldwin and Duran remain in custody and being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail. At the time of this press release, their next court date was not known.

“This is not the first time the San Leandro Police Department has arrested Baldwin.  In February of 2018, Baldwin was arrested in connection with a series of strong-arm robberies that he committed in San Leandro, two of which occurred in the same Costco parking lot,” said Lt. Ted Henderson

Both of these investigations are on-going as detectives are continuing to examine investigative leads to accurately determine the suspects involvement in recent robberies, not just in San Leandro, but in surrounding communities.
