Advisory

Sheriff's Office arrests husband and wife in connection with the April 14, 2019 Burton murder of Clinton Robinson.

Case History

On April 14, 2019 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a shooting incident that occurred outside of a residence on Laurel Street East in Burton. When they arrived, deputies learned that 36-year-old Clinton Robinson of Lady's Island had been shot and killed by an unknown male subject and that the subject fled the scene after the shooting. Sheriff's Office investigators interviewed numerous witnesses and the Crime Scene Unit examined and collected forensic evidence from the scene.

Cause and Manner of Clinton Robinson's Death

Beaufort County Coroner Edward Allen arranged for a forensic autopsy to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina and, on April 16, 2019, forensic pathologists concluded that Clinton Robinson died as a result of gunshot wounds and his manner of death was homicide.

Investigation

Following Clinton Robinson's murder, Sheriff's Office investigators continued to interview witnesses; and evidence from the crime scene was subjected to DNA analysis at the Sheriff's Office Forensic Services Laboratory. Through their interviews, investigators learned that the subject responsible for shooting Robinson was 41-year-old Jesse Jones Jr. Investigators also learned that Jones Jr.'s wife, 36-year-old Danyelle Ohonba, assisted him in concealing the crime. To further corroborate information investigators gathered from witnesses, analysts at the Forensic Services Laboratory developed a male DNA profile from evidence found at the crime scene, which matched Jesse Jones Jr.'s DNA profile.

Obtaining of Warrants and Arrests of Subjects

This morning, Sheriff's Office investigators met with a Beaufort County magistrate and presented the facts of the case. The magistrate reviewed the evidence and found that there was probable cause to issue warrants for the arrest of Jesse Jones Jr. for Murder and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime and for Danyelle Ohonba for Accessory after the Fact of Murder in connection with Clinton Robinson's shooting death.

After the arrest warrants were obtained, and also this morning,  investigators located and arrested Jesse Jones Jr. and Danyelle Ohonba at their Burton residence. Jones Jr. and Ohonba were transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated without incident. As of this afternoon, they had not received bond hearings on the charges.
