Route 27 weekend closure for Ten Mile Run culvert replacement in Somerset and Middlesex Counties Weekend detour required as culvert replacement project begins

(Trenton) – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a weekend detour of Route 27 to replace the Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert in Franklin, Somerset County and South Brunswick, Middlesex County.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, November 15 and continuing until 6 a.m. Monday, November 18, NJDOT’s contractor, Montana Construction Corp., will close and detour Route 27 just south of CR 518/Georgetown-Franklin Turnpike to install a temporary bridge at Ten Mile Run for the start of the culvert replacement work. The temporary bridge will be constructed adjacent to Route 27 southbound and is expected to remain in place through the completion of the project.

Once the temporary bridge is in place, Route 27 will be reopened Monday morning with Route 27 southbound shifted onto the temporary bridge. Route 27 northbound will be temporarily shifted onto the southbound side of the road to allow work on the northbound lane. This traffic configuration is expected to be in place until Spring 2020.

Once construction on the northbound lane is complete, northbound traffic will be returned, allowing work to continue on the southbound lane of the bridge. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during construction.

The following signed detour will be in place beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, November 15 until 6 a.m. Monday, November 18. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained for local traffic.

From Route 27 northbound:
Motorists traveling northbound on Route 27 will be directed to turn right onto Promenade Boulevard
 Turn left onto Route 1 north
 Turn left onto Finnegans Lane back to Route 27

From Route 27 southbound:
Motorists traveling southbound on Route 27 will be directed to turn left onto Finnegans Lane
 Turn right onto Route 1 south
 Turn right onto Promenade Boulevard back to Route 27

The $3.37 federally-funded Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacement project is expected to be completed by late 2020. The two culvert replacements will occur in stages. The Carter’s Brook culvert was replaced in October 2018.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge replacements. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
