Crescenta Valley Station Actively Recruiting for Explorers

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station is actively recruiting Explorers.  We are looking for young men and women who are between 14 and 20 years of age and are interested in “Exploring Law Enforcement”.

The Explorers get trained in laws, searching / handcuffing, writing reports, handling calls for service (domestic violence, family disturbance, felony traffic stops, active shooters, assaults, etc).  When trained, they can go on “ride a longs” with full time deputies on patrol in La Canada Flintridge or La Crescenta.  Once the Explorer proves themselves they have the opportunity to go on ride a longs at other stations throughout the county.

The Crescenta Valley Explorers assist with numerous station events such as the La Canada Fiesta Days Parade, La Canada Turkey Trot, Station Open House, Haunted Jail and Volunteer Rummage sale.

The Crescenta Valley Explorer Post has attended over 100 competitions.  The competitions have been held mostly in California, but they have attended competitions as far away as Hawaii and Arizona.  The explorers have earned hundreds of trophies and certificates for their participation in these competitions.  During the competitions the explorers compete against other explorer posts from across the United States.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Explorer Academy is a 12 week commitment.  The Academy is held every Saturday once started.  The next academy will start mid-February 2020, and will be held at one of two locations, STAR Center in Whittier, or College of the Canyons in Valencia.

The Post commitment is usually every second and fourth Monday of each month excluding holidays, school commitments, family obligations etc.  These Mondays are our usual Post Meetings when we train the explorers on the above scenarios and laws.

Over the years our explorers have gone onto the Naval Academy, Marine Corps Officer Candidate School, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.  Several of our explorers have graduated the Sheriff’s Academy and become Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff’s, San Diego County Deputy Sheriff’s, and Los Angeles Police Officers.

Explorer applicants must have a 2.0 grade point average, be of good moral character, and have no drug or alcohol use.

If you are between 14 and 20 and law enforcement interests you, please contact the Explorer Coordinators:
