Police K-9 Helps Capture Church Burglar. SRPD case # 19-15169

On November 5, 2019, at 3:11 a.m., Santa Rosa Police Department officers were dispatched to an alarm call at Resurrection Parish located at 303 Stony Point Road.  Upon their arrival they saw a vehicle parked haphazardly in the middle of the church’s grounds, and the sound of voices from inside the building.
Officers established a perimeter and prepared to search the premises.  Before and during the search, officers made repeated announcements warning any occupants about the possible deployment of a police K9.
While searching the interior, officers encountered a suspect who refused to comply with officers’ commands and the police K9 was deployed.  Despite the K9’s efforts, the suspect remained uncooperative, and officers were initially unable to secure him in handcuffs.  An officer attempted to use a conducted electrical weapon, however it was ineffective.  Officers used an expandable baton and personal body weapons to force the uncooperative suspect to the ground and secure him in handcuffs.  The suspect suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment at a local hospital.
No other subjects were located on the property.
The suspect was identified as David Pureco-Ortega, a 44-year-old Santa Rosa resident.  After receiving medical attention, Pureco-Ortega was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for the following charges;
-459 PC – Burglary
-148(a)(1) PC – Obstructing a Peace Officer
