Press Release: Indecent Exposure Suspect Arrested – Update #2

DATE:
November 2, 2019

LOCATION:
800-Block of Los Coches Street, Milpitas CA

CASE #:
19-297-088

SUSPECT:
Mario Joseph Vaquera, 25-year-old Manteca resident

SUSPECT VEHICLE:
Black 2006 Mazda 3, 4-door Sedan

On October 23, 2019, at approximately 4:57 P.M., an eleven-year-old victim was walking on Los Coches Street, when an unknown male adult driving a black, older model Mazda 3 sedan passed by and parked a short distance away. The suspect got out of his vehicle and stood by the trunk, and as the victim approached, he turned and exposed his genitals. The victim ran away from the scene and was uninjured. There were two additional incidents with adult victims that were reported to the Milpitas Police Department.

On October 29, 2019, at approximately 5:50 P.M., Detectives and the Crime Reduction Team conducted an undercover operation in the area of the previous incidents and located Mario Vaquera on Los Coches Street. Vaquera matched the sketch artist rendering and he was positively identified by one of the victims at the scene. Vaquera was arrested without incident and was thoroughly interviewed by Detectives before being booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for indecent exposure, a lewd act in public, and annoy or molest a child under the age of 18.

Crimes like this sometimes go unreported as they are traumatic for the victim and often leave the victim feeling embarrassed. The willingness of each of the three victims, especially a young victim, to come forward and report the incidents is a great display of courage. Their actions to report what occurred in a timely manner and cooperate with Detectives in the subsequent days of the investigation, contributed to the apprehension of Vaquera. Additionally, the hard work of the men and women of the Milpitas Police Department is to be commended.

If you have any information regarding these incidents or Mario Vaquera, then you are encouraged to contact the Milpitas Police Department at (408) 586-2400. Additionally, the information can be given anonymously by calling the Crime Tip Hotline at (408) 586-2500 or via the Milpitas Police Department Website at: http://www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov/crimetip.
